On Tuesday, 8 April, the Latvian Intellectual Property Awards were presented at a celebratory ceremony as part of the events dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the Patent Office of the Republic of Latvia (LPO). The “Visionary” award was presented to “Light Guide Optics International” LLC from Līvāni, which specializes in the development and production of optical fibres, fibre bundles, cables and laser delivery systems, for their contribution to the development of the field of intellectual property at the national and international levels, as well as for the promotion of the country's economic growth.
The Award was established in 2023, and it was first received by “Aerones Engineering” LLC, which is a robotics company that provides maintenance of wind turbines and their blades for industrial needs. “Light Guide Optics International” LLC is the second company in Latvia to receive this award.
When the LPO announced the application for the Award at the beginning of this year, a total of 26 applications were submitted, and it was the company from Līvāni that received the highest rating from the jury of the Award. Experts from the LPO, the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia, Riga Technical University, and “Aerones Engineering” LLC evaluated the applicants’ contribution to the protection of intellectual property, giving preference to those who have registered their inventions both nationally and internationally. The jury also assessed whether their economic activity was aimed at developing innovations and future technologies, or whether they met the characteristics of a “Visionary”, i.e. the ability to anticipate the future and persistently move towards the goal, an unconventional perspective on the world, the ability to see opportunities where nobody else does.
“Such a large number of submitted applications proves that innovative companies that create future technologies today, do not stop at what they have achieved and at the same time think about protecting their intellectual property, are visible and appreciated in Latvia. These are courageous entrepreneurs, representatives of science and the intellectual property field, who understand the potential of innovative approaches and see their own place in the future. “Light Guide Optics International” is exactly such a company and their achievements, as well as future ambitions, provide a good reason to call this company a Visionary,” notes LPO Director Agris Batalauskis.
“Light Guide Optics International” LLC uses modern optical fibre technologies to develop products that ensure efficient light transmission and adapt to the needs of various industries, including solutions for medicine, industry, and science.
The aim of the “Visionary” award is to honour enterprises, researchers, scientists and professionals in any field who care about the development of the intellectual property field, move towards new goals and see opportunities where nobody else does.
