LPO director Agris Batalauskis: “The LPO's expert commission has had a challenging year, evaluating trademarks registered every month and determining quarterly nominees. In Latvia, trademark applicants really stand out for their creativity, so decisions have been made in intense discussions, and have not always been easy. I believe that the jury will select the very best from these 32 best trademarks.”

The award process is organized in two stages. First, once a quarter, experienced LPO experts select four trademarks in the “Trademark of the Year - for Latvia” nomination and four trademarks - in the “Trademark of the Year - for the European Union” nomination which are further forwarded for the second evaluation stage. The winners of the main award in both nominations will be determined among 16 trademarks registered at the LPO and 16 trademarks registered at the EUIPO.

The award was founded in 2013 to honour Latvian entrepreneurs that are aware of the benefits of industrial property protection for increasing the long-term competitiveness and productivity of their companies, and to promote the development of Latvian businesses.
