Viktors Mironovs ar WIPO apbalvojumu - medaļu un sertifikātu

Professor Victor Mironov has been awarded the World Intellectual Property Organization’s (WIPO) Medal for his outstanding and innovative research in such areas as powder metallurgy, pulse-magnetic processing of materials, composite materials and more. The professor was nominated for this international award by the Patent Office and the Latvian Academy of Sciences.

Victor Mironov is a professor at Riga Technical University, Habilitated Doctor of Engineering Sciences, head of the Scientific Laboratory of Powder Materials at the Institute of Biomedicine Engineering and Nanotechnology at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Transport and Aeronautics.

Professor Mironov is the author of 430 scientific publications, including 10 monographs, 145 USSR author's certificates on inventions, 34 Latvian patents and three European patents. Under his supervision, a four-volume (1983, 1985, 1988) four-language (Russian-Latvian-German-English) Illustrated Dictionary of Construction Machines was prepared and published. In 1982, Victor Mironov received the honorary title of Honored Inventor of the Republic of Latvia.

Victor Mironov also deals with ecological and environmental issues. Together with his colleagues, he developed ferromagnetic sorbents to purify water from oil products; an electromagnetic elevator for conveying powder materials; technologies for the efficient use of perforated steel wastes; new composite materials and products.

"I am really pleased with the high evaluation, and I would like to thank my colleagues, the whole community of Riga Technical University, as well as the cooperation partners from industry for the support and excellent cooperation. I would also like to encourage young scientists to be active and patent their inventions. A patent claim is like a poem - sometimes it is born immediately, but sometimes after a long reflection, but the result always gives real satisfaction”, says Victor Mironov.

The WIPO Medal is awarded to researchers and inventors for significant contributions and innovative activities. It is offered to persons who have (or have applied for) a patent for an invention or a utility model. The award was introduced in 1979 to promote creativity and innovation around the world and to recognize the contribution of inventors to national wealth and development. Since its inception, the Medal has been awarded in 130 countries.

In the previous years, the WIPO Medal was awarded to the following Latvian scientists: Dr.sc.ing. Jurijs Roļiks, Docent of the Transport and Telecommunication Institute (2015); Andris Martinsons, Chief Designer at Baltrotors Ltd (2017);  Aldis Eglājs, Chairman of the Board of the Latvian Inventors’ Association, Chairman of the Board of Katri Ltd and Jūras Katri Ltd (2018); Videvuds-Ārijs Lapsa, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Riga Technical University (2019); Professor Dr.habil.chem Valdis Kampars, Director of the Institute of Applied Chemistry, Faculty of Materials Science and Applied Chemistry, Riga Technical University (2020).
