This year, the Latvian student enterprises’ (SMUs) event "OTHER BAZAAR in Spring" took place from 3 to 7 March. As in the previous year, it was organized online.
On 7 March, the Patent Office awarded two prizes to the winners of the SMUs primary and secondary school groups in the nomination “Knowledge-based SMU product/ service”.
The award in the primary school group went to Project: Lazer (Limbaži Secondary School) for wooden key rings made using laser cutting equipment.
In the secondary school group, the award went to SlipnO (Mārupe State Gymnasium) for anti-slip powder for dancing shoes (ballroom shoes, ballet shoes, etc.).
At the awards ceremony, Director of the Patent Office Agris Batalauskis presented the prizes to the winners and addressed the SMUs: "Young people, this year's focus is on you, because 2022 is the European Year of Youth! The active involvement of young people is the key to success in shaping our future. Participating in SMUs is a very important step, because here each of you learns about and practices entrepreneurship".
On 4 March, throughout the day, each SMU had the opportunity to have an online consultation with the Patent Office to learn about the possibilities of protecting its product or service.
This year, more than 270 best Latvian SMUs took part in the event. Defending their products and services before a panel, they fought for prizes in nine nominations:
- Socially responsible SMU
- Technologically innovative product / service
- Best SMU sales team
- Knowledge-based SMU product / service
- Social Media Communication Award
- SMU product / service ready for international business
- Environmentally friendly SMU product / service
- SMU business potential
- Best advertising video
The Patent Office’s representatives in the panel were Dace Liberte, Chairperson of the Industrial Property Board of Appeal, and Ilze Grava, Director of the Intellectual Property Information Center.
JA Latvia has created an e-catalogue where it is possible not only to view the SMUs’ virtual trade fair stands, but also to buy their products or services.
