The Latvian Performers’ and Producers’ Association (LaIPA) has received confirmation from the Patent Office regarding the registration of the GAMMA trademark. The trademark owner is a non-profit organization founded by performers and phonogram producers, managing the collective administration of property rights for domestic and foreign rights holders in Latvia.
LaIPA has registered two GAMMA trademarks: word, and graphic or logo. Both trademarks have been registered and protected since 20 November 20 this year. This means that the trademark owner LaIPA holds exclusive rights to these trademarks in Latvia, and anyone wishing to use them for commercial purposes must seek permission from the owner.
"The registered and protected trademark for the GAMMA award affirms its value and sustainability while symbolizing adherence to high-quality standards. It also serves as a signal to the creative industries about the importance of protecting their intellectual property, which extends beyond copyrights. Thus, everyone in the music industry can contribute to fostering innovation and competitiveness," stated Ilze Grava, Director of the Development and International Cooperation Department at the Patent Office.
In spring this year, LaIPA members decided on the necessity of a new award—GAMMA—for the music industry, entrusting its implementation to the LaIPA Council. Among the initial tasks was establishing an Advisory Board, which held joint meetings to discuss the essence of the award, develop its regulations, and plan subsequent steps. Professionals were also engaged to design the visual identity and brand message.
"To create not only the award itself but also its identity on a strong foundation, it was crucial to define the core and message of the GAMMA brand. The event aims to unite the entire music industry—a place where contemporary music converges. This unity and convergence serve as guiding principles in the brand's identity, reflected in the connected “MM” symbol at the centre of the GAMMA wordmark. While the brand’s unmistakable recognition is yet to grow, it is essential to protect it from the very beginning to ensure a stable future," noted Maija Rozenfelde, Design Director at KiD Design Studio.
As previously reported, the GAMMA awards ceremony will take place on 5 March 2025, at "Arena Riga." The GAMMA ceremony will be an opportunity for music fans to meet their favourite Latvian musicians.
