In preparation for the DesignEuropa Awards ceremony, organized by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), which will take place on September 25 in Riga, Latvia, the Patent Office of the Republic of Latvia is introducing the awards finalists. Competing in the Entrepreneurs and Small Companies category is the Module One smart home battery system.
The Belgian company MyGrid has created a battery that responds to electricity prices. Connected to the power grid, the battery charges when electricity prices are low and powers the home by electricity when prices are high, significantly reducing energy bills. As more households are installing solar panels, the Module One system can also store energy generated from them.
Additionally, it serves as a battery in places where electricity is not available, such as in nature.
The Module One battery is linked to a mobile app that allows users to control energy consumption and manage the battery’s operating modes.
To develop this battery system, the company’s designers and experts dedicated two years to ensure it is both efficient and visually compatible with most interior designs.
The designer behind Module One, Jan Wellens, combines practicality with innovation in his work, creating solutions that are both effective and accessible. His philosophy focuses on the interaction between users and technology, with a strong emphasis on sustainability. He is particularly passionate about solar energy and its utilization.
MyGrid focuses on creating solutions that empower consumers to take control of their energy consumption, while ensuring that products are sustainable and affordable for every household.
