On 20 March 2024, Agris Batalauskis, Director of the Latvian Patent Office, was elected to the Board of the Administrative Council of the European Patent Organisation.
As members of the Board are elected for three years, the term of office of A. Batalauskis will last from 27 June 2024 to 26 June 2027.
"I am convinced that the European Patent Organisation plays an important role in promoting European economic development based on innovation and sustainable solutions, as well as it has a significant effect on raising the competitiveness of the European innovation system on a global scale. Working as a member of the Board of the Administrative Council, I will have the opportunity to contribute to the strengthening of the role of the European Patent Organisation as well as to the achievement of its strategic goals," states Agris Batalauskis, Director of the Latvian Patent Office.
A. Batalauskis has been the Director of the Latvian Patent Office since 1 February 2022, and he has actively participated in the work of the Administrative Council as the head of the Latvian delegation at the European Patent Organisation. The Director of the Latvian Patent Office also represents Latvia in two other significant intellectual property organisations - the European Union Intellectual Property Office and the World Intellectual Property Organisation, thus enhancing the role of the Latvian Patent Office and Latvia in the development of intellectual property field in Europe and the world.
The Administrative Council acts as the supervisory body of the European Patent Organisation and is composed of representatives of the Organisation’s member states, while its Board prepares the Council’s work programme, coordinates the work of the Council and its bodies, promoting the functioning of the entire Organisation in a harmonized and coordinated manner.
