In order to find information if a certain trademark is or is not protected in Latvia, one should search the first three databases below:
Updated: 28.07.2023.
Please note that, according to the provisions of the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property, a trade mark filed in one Member State may be filed in another country within 6 months from the date of the first application, referring to the first filing date as the mark’s priority date. Thus, for example, a trade mark filed in Estonia in January may not appear in any databases with reference to Latvia until June, but if during the 6-month period it is filed in Latvia under national procedure or as a European Union trade mark, or internationally (with extension to Latvia), its priority date is in January, and it may turn out to be an earlier mark than your trade mark that was filed in the meantime.
The database contains information on trademarks filed with the Latvian Patent Office under the national procedure.
Access to the database is free.
The database always contains up-to-date information. The information obtained from the database has no legal force. To obtain official extracts from the Register of Trade Marks please contact the Division of State Registers of the Department of Trademarks and Industrial Designs.
eSearch plus is a database of the European Union Intellectual Property Office that contains data on European Union trademarks filed for registration under Council Regulation (EU) No 2017/1001 of 14 June 2017 on the European Union trade mark (previously – Council Regulation (EC) No. 207/2009 of 26 February 2009 on the Community trade mark). European Union trademarks are valid in all 27 member states of the European Union, including Latvia.
Paragraph 3 of the Transitional Provisions of the Trade Mark Law provides that if a European Union trademark is registered or applied for registration before 01.05.2004, its priority date in Latvia is determined to be 01.05.2004.
Madrid Monitor is a trademark database of the WIPO, that contains information on trademarks registered under the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks or the Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks. In order to search for trademarks extended to Latvia you should choose “advanced search” and enter the two-letter country code of Latvia “LV” in the field Designation.
In order to simultaneously search trademark databases of several countries, one can use the TMview search tool:
